Student Volunteering

We know you’re busy learning those new skills, but how about putting them to practice and help West Sussex voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises while you’re at it? Not only could you build rewarding relationships with local organisations, you could also get networking and get your CV looking a bit different.

Even just one day of your time and skills can make a big difference to a local organisation. Whether you’re training to be an architect, a chef or are a whiz with websites there is an opportunity waiting for you.

Where to start

We can help you easily find volunteering opportunities with a simple search of our extensive database. Obviously with deadlines, part-time jobs and the like, students can’t afford to give a lot of time at once, so it is possible to spread days across a longer period or work with other volunteers to share out the time.

You can give just a single day of your time or anything up to and including 10 days – flexibility is the name of the game. We have hundreds of vacancies of between 1 and 10 days to help West Sussex voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises with specific projects and needs.

Placements

Many voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises have placements specifically for students. These are designed to complement a number of courses such as Social Work and Child Care.

Your college or university should be able to help you with placements. Alternatively, the University of Chichester is working on an initiative called GraduateOn and the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships website has been specifically designed for students who have just graduated.

Sussex University and the University of Brighton also provide help with student placements. We need to research this to get additional text or links.
